burst and bloom.
I thought about the time I tripped and fell on the sidewalk carrying a bag of apples and little pumpkins, and I told someone about it later. They were concerned in a friendly way, and I brushed the dirt on my palms down the front of my skirt and said, “It was pretty embarrassing. But, life is pretty embarrassing.”
There are a lot of people I wish I would’ve treated differently....

an education.
I’ve been keeping this running collection of thoughts and observations, split between the back of my Advanced Mix Techniques notebook and text messages sent to myself when I can’t find a pen. There’s been a lot to write down; the past month has been an incredibly rewarding series of conversations with people in every life circumstance, age, gender, and frame of mind. I’ve...

My dear friend Mike released this into the world today after many months of work. Beautiful song, beautiful players, and these were lovely lovely sessions. I’m so proud to have had a small part in this.

it's 4:47 AM
and I’m not trying to be coherent and existential or anything, but it’s so darn odd how someone else’s circumstance and experience can turn your eyes inside to get a different look at your own brain. You think you have a plan in motion that will lead you to some kind of fulfillment and then you realize that you’re heading where people think you should be heading....

molding minds
at mentoring tonight. I’ve gotten back into 13 hour days spent surrounded by the most beautiful people on the planet. When you’re around such good people all the time, your heart just feels warm. You have no excuse to not smile as much as they do. Forgive and get back to loving people as soon as you possibly can. I don’t go to sleep thinking about the drum sound I got; I go to...

This used to live on my old Tumblr and some people liked it. It’s an interesting thing to think about almost a year after I posted it the first time:
songs about jane.
I don’t think love is useless; as an artist, or as someone who has the audacity to refer to herself as an artist, I can’t. As someone who takes feelings and puts chord progressions to them, I have to at least be willing to...

Also here’s a video I took when I saw La Dispute in Cleveland a few years ago before anyone knew who they were. I went home and downloaded Somewhere At The Bottom and am forever in love in love in love.

The first text post I’ve ever reblogged:
nomoreundead:
I have to sit on my suitcase three times before it will zip shut. But there’s always more to add. It’s hard to leave New York in January.
I said no to every date, every advance, every fleeting memory that meant to turn into something more. And for what? So that I can fly back tomorrow night with…

stay young, go dancing.
I had music in my ears while I walked down the dirt path near the small winding Emerald river, every pounding piano chord beating the bass of my heavy footsteps. I had music when I sat on the Adirondack chair chained to the dock on the Charles, in the blowing rain, staring vacantly into the fog across the bridge. I had music while I kicked through snow, sticks, and mud, while I danced around the...

a sea chanty of sorts.
I haven’t written many lyrics in the past few months myself, but I have been making a collection ( mentally, until now) of my favorite lines by others. Not surprisingly, a lot of them come from my “Most Played” in iTunes as well as my favorite records of the past couple years:
“Sailor, sailor, I’m sending birds to watch over you.” -A Little Piece by The...

singingmofoo asked: Thanks! I've been teaching myself guitar and piano since about 13 years old and I've also been singing since about 7 to 8 years old. For auditioning, do you think they'll just let me sing since that's my strongest instrument?
